This isn't like that. Snowden was in Chinese and then Russian custody, where he presumably gave them something of value. Intelligence agencies don't have a person like that fall into their lap and get nothing.
And even if he didn't give them anything, the information he stole that became public helped Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, al Qaeda, and ISIS counter legitimate U.S. intelligence activity.
I most certainly do not oppose whistleblowing. I'm saying there are proper channels for it, and one can release information the government is keeping secret that's in the public interest without helping some of the world's worst actors.
