This is a fairly common misconception, and it's because most people don't understand power.

Tech companies can deny someone access to web services. That's not nothing. But the government can deny someone everything--including basic freedom. That's real power.

You might feel fairly secure that agents of the state aren't going to arrest or kill you, or confiscate your property, so you personally worry more about not getting to use Twitter or not getting an app on Apple's App Store. Still, I assure you, maximum security prison is worse.
