The scaremongering about the caravan of asylum-seekers is terrible. There’s no reason for it, besides stirring up xenophobic anger to try to motivate voters.

That doesn’t mean they should be granted asylum. There’s a reasonable debate to be had about how many asylum-seekers — and immigrants more broadly — the U.S. should admit each year.

But “invading horde” (Ingraham), “assault on our country” (Trump), and every other ridiculous thing said about them is flat out wrong.
