Me too. It’s pretty depressing that the realistic choices are between bad and worse. Nevertheless, that’s the situation, and we have to make the best (least bad) of it.

Part of the problem is a relatively small number can be spoilers. Meaning, it takes a lot of people for sustained peace, but fewer to disrupt that peace. There are more than enough people in Afghanistan and Pakistan who want conflict — or, rather, they want to dominate everyone else, but in ways others find unacceptable — that there will be violence.

As much as I wish that wasn’t the case, it is. For now.
