In November, I wrote an article about Assange and others I grouped under the term “internet radicals,” arguing that they had become so focused on harming the United States and the Western establishment that they ended up helping authoritarians. And authoritarian states, such as Russia and China, are much worse when it comes to values internet radicals supposedly hold dear, such as free speech.
In response, some argued that WikiLeaks didn’t actually advance Russia’s goals, and didn’t actually want Donald Trump to become president. (Note: I didn’t claim Assange and other internet radicals were working for or directly with Russia, just that their actions ended up strengthening Russia and other authoritarians at the expense of the United States and other democracies).
This article from The Intercept provides clear evidence that WikiLeaks did, in fact, want Trump to win, and ended up (deliberately or inadvertently) supporting Russia’s agenda. Thanks for the informative research and write-up.
