If, as you note, "she had every right to be afraid given the events happening nearby," then she has every right to talk about it. I've been asking people who were farther away what their experience of that day was like, and none of them get death threats from the sort of people who were in the violent mob.
Civilian and military is different. A soldier claiming to be in combat when they were near a battle, but not actually in one, is quite different from a civilian claiming they were personally affected by a violent event that was nearby.
That said, I'm glad we agree that the United States should and must remember the insurrection, and address those responsible. That's the most important part.
