I had the same immediate reaction to that 46% figure. But then I wondered which media organizations the respondents had in mind.

Here’s the question from the poll: “Based on what you know, do you believe the nations major news organizations fabricate news stories about President Trump and his administration, or not?”

“Major news organizations” is ambiguous. Most reporting on the poll assumes CNN, the broadcast networks, New York Times, and Washington Post. But Fox is a major news organization too. It’s easily possible some respondents were thinking of major news organizations making up pro-Trump stories, in which case the percentage of Americans that buy Trump’s attacks is lower than 46% (though still pretty high, I’m sure).
