Ted Cruz ran as a Christian candidate, but he was far from the only option for evangelicals who wanted to follow through on everything they had been saying about leaders’ personal morality. Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, John Kasich and other Republican candidates were all Christian, promising to nominate conservative judges, and far better exemplars of personal morality than Donald Trump. But they weren’t running white identity campaigns.
